April 2008 - Nick
Nick was my first foster. Probably the easiest one to care for. He was only at my place for a week and was a quiet, sweet boy. He was already adopted but his new mom had been called out of town before she could pick him up. Normally the shelter would have just left him in one of the community rooms but they were having a problem with an upper respiratory infection that was ravaging the cat side. No sooner would a cat get over one infection then another one would occur. We were constantly cycling cats and kittens in and out of ISO. It was several months before they was discovered that they were dealing with a case of Feline Bordetella. Contributing to the problem was an unknown design flaw in the shelter. Namely that the ventilation system for the ISO rooms were connected to the community rooms. Since Bordetella is an airborne virus, the sick kitties were constantly exposing the healthy ones despite being placed in isolation. Eventually, repairs were done to the ventilation system to correct the problem.
In the meantime, to protect Nick from coming down with the URI, it was decided that the safest thing would be for him to go into foster care until his foster mom returned. At the time, the room was still set up with all my scrapbooking supplies. It wasn't long before all that got moved out and stored in the dining room. After his short stay at Hotel Potts, he was happily reunited with his adoptive mom.
